Chicago Art Open

Hello!
I am pleased and honored to announce that I will be representing at the Chicago Art Open this year with my work 'The Love Story of Mr & Mrs Willie White'! It runs from October 3rd through the 19th at the Merchandise Mart.
Especially sweet & exciting is the news that I have been chosen for an Honorable Mention Award for the occasion.
For more information see below or contact me. And if you'll be in Chicago during that time, please stop by and say hello!

CHICAGO- The 11th Annual Chicago Art Open, the largest survey of Chicagoland visual artists, will move to the Merchandise Mart during this year's Chicago Artists' Month from October 3-19, 2008.

The Chicago Art Open is organized by the Chicago Artists' Coalition (CAC), the city's largest not-for-profit visual arts service organization and one of the Midwest's premier arts service organizations.

The Chicago Art Open is a centerpiece of Chicago Artists' Month, a citywide celebration of the visual arts held each October. Thousands of art enthusiasts and visitors attend Chicago Art Open public programs, which include an Opening Benefit, special tours, family days, and panel discussions. In 2007, more than 5,000 people attended the exhibition and related programs.

Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. is one of the largest trade show producers in the world, operating more than 300 special events annually throughout the US and internationally, including Artropolis in April.

The Chicago Art Open accepts entries on an open basis and features the work of approximately 300 artists in all mediums, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, video, and installation. Each year, a panel of guest curators reviews all submitted work and designates approximately 10% as "Curator's Choice." All work in the exhibition is for sale, and many artists make valuable connections with local collectors, curators, and art professionals as a result of their involvement.

"This year we are making some changes that will certainly raise the bar and attract even more collectors and people to the show. Combining forces with the Merchandise Mart will offer more visibility for our artists and for the organization. We anticipate a great show- featuring emerging and mid-career artists, as well as student artists representing local institutions," says Olga Stefan, Chicago Artists' Coalition Executive Director.

The Chicago Artists' Coalition, established in 1974, provides ongoing professional support to more than 2300 members in the greater Chicago area. The CAC supports a diverse range of programs and services, including portfolio reviews, professional development workshops, conferences, and exhibition opportunities. CAC members have preferred access to health insurance providers and a range of online resources, including a job bank and personal gallery space. The CAC's latest initiative, the cross-disciplinary art journal, Prompt, arrives on newsstands in October.

Dear Artist,

It is our pleasure to inform you that your artwork has been awarded a Honorable Mention for the 2008 Chicago Art Open. You were selected for this honor along with 16 other artists from more than 270 considered applicants. The Honorable Mention awards are in addition to the 22 Curators' Choice awards and reflect the quality of entries submitted this year.

Our distinguished panels of jurors—Catherine Edelman of Catherine Edelman Gallery, Candida Alvarez of the School of the Art Institute, and Kymberly Pinder of SAIC— scored each artist after reviewing all submitted images. Their scores were then averaged and ranked to determine the Curator’s Choice and Honorable Mention selections. Accordingly, this award is a recognition of consistent excellence in all three of your entries-- not just of the one artwork selected for exhibition.

Congratulations again on this wonderful honor. We look forward to presenting your work at the Merchandise Mart in October.

Best regards,

Olga Stefan David Schmitz
Executive Director Exhibition Coordinator
